Privacy, in plain language.
This policy explains what information Read Often handles and the choices available to you.
What Read Often stores
Your books, shelves, reading sessions, goals, reminders, notes, and processed book artwork are stored on your device. Read Often does not sell this information or use it for advertising.
Account information
If you choose Sign in with Apple or Google, Firebase Authentication processes an account identifier and may process the name and email address provided by that service. You can use Read Often as a guest and can permanently delete your Read Often account from Profile → Account.
Cloud sync
Cloud sync is optional. When enabled, supported library information is stored in Google Firebase under the unique account identifier created for the Apple or Google sign-in method you used. Apple and Google sign-ins remain separate accounts. Read Often does not require cloud sync to use the app.
Camera and photos
Access is requested only when you scan an ISBN or create cover, spine, or fore-edge artwork. Processing happens on your device. Camera originals are not saved by Read Often; only the cropped artwork you approve is copied into private app storage.
Book catalog services
When you search for a book or ISBN, the search text is sent to Open Library to return metadata and cover images. Open Library may receive standard network information such as your IP address.
Purchases
Subscriptions and lifetime purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. RevenueCat receives purchase, subscription, app, device, and entitlement information so Read Often can offer, verify, restore, analyze, and manage Plus access. RevenueCat uses an anonymous app identifier for guests and the Firebase user identifier when you are signed in. Read Often and RevenueCat do not receive your payment-card details.
Screen Time and notifications
Both are optional. App and category selections used for distraction blocking are handled through Apple’s Family Controls frameworks. Reminder details are used only to schedule notifications you request.
Sharing, retention, and deletion
Read Often shares or exports library information only when you initiate that action or enable cloud sync. Local data remains until you remove it in the app or delete the app. Deleting a Read Often account removes its Firebase account and cloud library copy, but does not automatically erase the local library so you do not lose books unintentionally.
Children
Read Often is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
